Youth Races

If you’re still thinking of signing up for the Sussex Beacon Youth Race then you still have time. We will be taking entries for the Youth Race right up to the day of the race, but be warned entries close at 9.30am sharp on the day.

The youth race for 12 – 16 year olds has now had to be reduced to a mile race as a result of knock on effect from the changing of the half marathon course after the closing of the Undercliff walk on Brighton seafront. We apologise for this change but it is a situation out of our hands with the Council Coastal Defence department closing the route for up to two years.

As a guide to the morning to make sure your child is able to enjoy the run to its fullest we have put together a schedule for the day.

Registration – 8.30am – 9.15am – will close at 9.15 sharp! Due to a tight running schedule no child arriving after 9.15am will be able to run. At registration each child will be given a wristband where a contact number must be written onto in case of an emergency and a race chip that will be attached to the shoe.

Once your child has registered they will be required check into the designated pen with official race marshals until they are then accompanied to the start line. They must have checked in to the pen by 9.35 and a child must be wearing a wrist band to enter the pen.

Warm Up – 9.45am – To be led by coaches from Brighton and Hove Albion FC community coaching team and to include Gully’s girls cheerleading team.

Race start – 1 mile 12-16 year olds 10.00am
800m 8-11 year olds 10.01am

Finish – At the finish line your child will be given a banana and Lucozade drink and be required to remain with the race marshals where they will escorted back to the registration tent. Here they will receive their medal in exchange for their timing chip which will be attached to their shoe. Parents must pick their child up from here so we can tick everybody out.

Baggage – This is the responsibility of parents, there will not be any baggage facilities for the Youth Race.

To register your child for the event you can enter online on the “Register Online” page or download an entry form from the same page and send off to the marked address.
